The canvas AM V featuring Indigenous graphic patterns is hand-painted using natural pigments by female artists of the Asurini people. According to ethnographic records by Regina Müller, an anthropologist who lived for many years among the Asurini of the Xingu, many of these patterns originate in shamanic visions, dreams, and encounters with non-human beings. They are not products of free artistic invention, but rather revealed, learned, and inherited knowledge. In this context, these graphic patterns can protect the body, mark ritual states, and make the invisible visible. As they transition to new media, such as canvases and objects, they retain their cosmological foundation, with female artists playing a leading role in the continuity and renewal of this ancestral practice.
